In Cinderella’s Shoes
A feminist's views on classic fairy tales

Brief: This brief's task was to find a particular point of interest either in the life of the authors Grimm or their writings, and create an editorial publication that showcases it.

Solution: After researching the brothers Grimm's life and works I decided to focus on their selection of children's stories and more specifically the tale of Cinderella.

The aim was to display the strong patriarchal portrayal that resulted in the suppression of the female gender. The purpose was to raise awareness and encourage people to eliminate any trace of patriarchy left lingering from tales that are still read to children. The point is not to avoid or destroy these tales as they are part of human history but to view them as just that, a part of history that we can reflect upon, learn and progress from. As the tale is split into chapters before each one there is a spread where a question is raised relating to the following chapter aiming to ignite critical thinking.

Design: Each chapter narrates the story through expressive typography that enhances the issues within the storyline in a very minimal manner.

The cover, paper and choice of typography were made to resemble traditional books of the time. The aim was to create contrast using expressive typography on the rather traditional background as a metaphor for viewing the past with a ''modern'' perspective and progressing from it.
